Royal News!

July 12, 2001 - Former king Simeon II has agreed to become Bulgaria's new prime minister. "After considering my sense of responsibility and the vote of confidence I received on June 17, I accept this offer," he said, adding that his only concern is the well-being of the people. The ex-king's party, the National Movement for Simeon II or NDS, won the country's parliamentary elections on June 17. The Bulgarian monarchy was abolished in 1946, when the king was nine. The royal family went into exile and Simeon did not visit Bulgaria again until 1996. He has never abdicated.

Cut flowers from the garden in the morning
When buying them, plunge wrapped and tied into cold water until you're ready to start arranging.
If trying to speed the opening of buds, place these stems in warm water.
Recut stems as you go; a 45 angle will maximize water absorption.
Remove all foliage below the water line to slow the growth of bacteria.
Treat the water with a teaspoon or less of ordinary household bleach.
Add a pinch of prediluted sugar for nutrition; don't overdo.
Once a day, mist the display and replenish the water in the vase.
Place finished arrangements in a cool area away from direct heat or light.
Prune wilted leaves; replace tired blooms with new ones.
Change water when cloudy and recut stems.
