Attributed to Khayyam?

-"Are you the infidel some people claim you to be?"

-"I despise the zeal of the devout, but I have never said that the One was two.  I am not one of those for whom faith is simply fear of judgment.  How do I pray? I study a rose, I count the stars, I marvel at the beauty of creation and how perfectly ordered it is, at man, the most beautiful work of the Creator, his brain thirsting for knowledge, his heart for love, and his senses, all his senses alert or gratified."

Painting by: Freydoon Rassouli

From: Rumi

I died from minerality and became vegetable;
And From vegetativeness I died and became animal.
I died from animality and became man.
Then why fear disappearance through death?
Next time I shall die
Bringing forth wings and feathers like angels;
After that, soaring higher than angels -
What you cannot imagine,
I shall be that.

MAGIC SUITCASE

by: shahnaz A'lami

I took with me a suitcase,

light, very light,

Two or three sets of baby clothes,

A white georgette dress,

An indistinct photograph of my mother,

wearing a headdress,

And a complete list of traditional things

for the Noe-Rooz's celebrations,

Lest a single thing should be forgotten;

These were what I had,

or rather, people thought I had,

in my suitcase

With which I left the land

of the generous sun.

Two Beautiful Poems by Sheema Kalbasi

Pink Apple Blooms

Wouldn't it be a shame
if we died
not knowing
who discovered our homeland!
not knowing the next cross over
blue waves of the Caspian Sea
not knowing ever again
feeling the touch
the white sands

Wouldn't it be a shame?

Wouldn't it be a shame
if all that survived
were what stars sounded
when falling in the dark deep land?

Symbols crack, smash, ding, dang, dang!

Wouldn't it be a shame
not knowing when
the moon would come back?

Wouldn't it be a shame
if our palms didn't grow again!

Waiting...

Snowballs' seduction in Tehran
not be seen by my children
avenues not walked in
Autumn leaves left alone
